The Tuba Powerhouse was formed on 22nd November 2006. Started by four young and enthusiastic musicians playing in the different bands around Singapore at that time, including the Singapore Wind Symphony Youth Winds and the acclaimed Singapore National Youth Orchestra, the Tuba Powerhouse aims to bring its unique music to audience of all ages.
Today, the Tuba Powerhouse is a dynamic chamber ensemble that is ready, willing and able to perform at a wide variety of occasions from formal recitals, weddings to outdoor performances. Confronted with limited repertoire and funds, the Tuba Powerhouse mainly relies on its members to come up with their own arrangements and compositions. Many pieces which the Tuba Powerhouse performs were proudly arranged or composed by its own members.
After a success inaugural 4-day performance at the Jurong BirdPark in December 2006 for the Christmas season, the Tuba Powerhouse had since grown in stature. The ensemble was also invited to be featured in the local brass group, “Just Brass” ensemble’s second concert on the 5th of January 2008 at the Lee Foundation Theater.
Today, the Tuba Powerhouse continues to be dedicated to showcase the beauty of these frequently underestimated instruments.
